ROYAL BLOODLINES REGISTRY
Royal Bloodlines Registry – Official Standard of the Bulldog
Overall Impression:
The Royal Bloodlines Bulldog presents a noble silhouette—medium in stature, draped in a sleek coat, with a powerful yet compact frame. The hallmark of this breed is a broad, short-muzzled head, wide shoulders, and thick, sturdy limbs. The breed should embody strength, endurance, and grace. Its temperament is calm, courageous, and loyal—never aggressive, always dignified. These virtues should be clearly expressed in both expression and demeanor.
Size, Structure & Balance
· Weight: Ideal weight is approximately 50 lbs for males and 40 lbs for females.
· Proportion: The circumference of the head (measured in front of the ears) should equal or exceed the dog’s height at the shoulder.
· Symmetry: No trait should dominate excessively or be underdeveloped—harmony of form is essential.
· Sexual Dimorphism: Females may express the breed's hallmarks with softer lines; allowances are made accordingly.
Head
· Eyes: Wide-set, round, and forward-facing. Deep, dark pigmentation only. No visible sclera ("haw") when gazing forward. Blue, green, or multicolored eyes are disqualified.
· Ears: Set high and wide. Small, fine, and rose-shaped are preferred. Erect, button, or cropped ears are disallowed.
· Skull: Large and square, with height from jaw to crown and width between cheeks giving a bold, blocky profile.
· Cheeks: Full and prominent, pushing outward beyond the eyes.
· Stop: Strongly defined, forming a wide, deep groove up the center of the forehead.
· Face & Muzzle: Extremely short and upturned. Broad and deep from eye corner to mouth corner.
· Nose: Broad, black, and deeply set. Wide nostrils with a clear division. Non-black noses disqualify.
· Lips & Bite: The upper lips (flews) should drape deeply over the lower jaw. Bite must be undershot and firm, with large, evenly spaced teeth.
Body & Frame
· Neck: Thick, short, and arched gracefully, blending into strong shoulders.
· Topline: Characterized by a "wheel-back"—dipping slightly behind the shoulders, rising over the loin, then curving down to the tail.
· Chest & Brisket: Exceptionally broad, deep, and low. The body should convey strength and grounded presence.
· Back & Loin: Short and muscular, with narrowing from shoulders to hips.
· Tail: Set low and carried downward. May be straight or tightly “screwed,” but never curly or raised.
Forequarters
· Shoulders: Massive, sloped outward, and deeply muscled.
· Legs: Short, strong, slightly bowed in outline. Bones must be heavy and true—no curving or knocking in.
· Feet: Compact with high knuckles and short nails. Toes well-split and firmly planted.
Hindquarters
· Structure: Slightly longer than the forelegs to elevate the loin.
· Stifles & Hocks: Turned slightly outward, giving the hind legs a strong, arched stance with inward-facing hocks and outward-facing feet.
· Feet: As in front—compact and firm, toes split and nails short.
Coat & Skin
· Coat: Close-lying, short, and glossy. No feathering or curl.
· Skin: Loose and soft, especially around the neck and shoulders.
· Wrinkles & Dewlap: Heavy wrinkling on the face and a pronounced double dewlap from jaw to chest.
Color & Markings
· Accepted Colors: Solid or combinations of red, white, fawn, or fallow. Acceptable patterns include brindle, piebald, black masks, and minimal black in piebalds.
· Disqualifications: Merle pattern, solid black coats, and excessive black not specified above.
Movement
· The Bulldog's movement should reflect its build: a distinctive, rolling gait with visible strength and rhythm. Though loose in motion, it should be efficient and balanced.
Temperament
· Calm, noble, and fearless. The Royal Bloodlines Bulldog must possess a temperament that is friendly, confident, and even-tempered—never aggressive or timid. Dignity is a trademark.
