WHERE THE BEST DARE TO BE GREAT

DOG SHOW RING ETIQUETTE

For Handlers & Exhibitors:

1.      Be On Time: Arrive at ringside early and be aware of the judging schedule. Missing your class can lead to disqualification.

2.      Know the Ring Procedure: Understand the flow of the ring—when to stack, gait, and where to position yourself. Watch earlier classes if you're unsure.

3.      Respect the Judge and Others: Greet the judge politely, follow instructions precisely, and never argue their decisions in the ring.

4.      Keep a Safe Distance: Allow space between dogs, especially between breeds prone to aggression or stress.

5.      No Distracting Behaviors: Don’t talk loudly, use clickers, or offer treats that could disrupt another dog’s performance.

6.      Keep It Clean: Always clean up after your dog and ensure your area is tidy.

7.      Minimize Movement When Not Called: Avoid unnecessary motion while waiting your turn—stand quietly and keep your dog under control.

8.      Avoid Scented Products: Strong scents can distract dogs or even cause allergic reactions in others.

DOG SHOW DRESS CODE

For Handlers:

Your attire should be professional, neat, and breed-appropriate. The goal is to present your dog—not distract from them.

General Guidelines:

·         Business Casual or Better: Suits, blazers, dresses, or coordinated sets are common. Skirts should be practical length for movement.

·         Neutral or Coordinated Colors: Choose colors that complement or contrast your dog (so they stand out against your outfit).

·         Comfortable Footwear: Closed-toe shoes with good grip are essential; avoid heels that might slip or get stuck.

·         No Excessive Jewelry: Avoid jangly items that can distract or catch on your dog or leash.

For Men:

·         Dress slacks or chinos with a shirt and blazer, or a full suit.

·         Ties are optional but often worn in more formal settings.

For Women:

·         Slacks, skirt suits, or dresses that allow ease of movement.

·         Avoid overly short skirts or flowing clothing that may distract the dog.

·         Practice at Home in Full Attire: Ensure your dog isn’t distracted by your show outfit.
